30A - Final Reflection
I think the most formative moment in this class for me was when we were first asked to reach out to make connections with experts in the industry in which our business venture exists. I believe that first assignment where we had to reach out to potential customers was Testing the Hypothesis Pt. 1. I have spoken about this assignment a lot, and for good reason. It actually seemed quite hard to make a legitimate connection with a potential customer. I used UF's business library to contact nearly 25 potential customers and got a single response. I learned very easily that I would have to overcome significant hurdles to truly work out this venture.
I do feel that I have developed an entrepreneurial mindset. I see more problems in the world, and more importantly, I see more opportunities to solve those problems. I feel like my view of entrepreneurship has altered to include little attempts to meet customers needs like local mom-and-pop shops.
For students taking this class in the future, I would advise them to treat this class like a true opportunity to work on, not only an entrepreneurial concept, but on themselves. They should physical venture out and speak with experts and customers because it will widen their network significantly and working on sales skills will benefit individuals in any line of work or social situation. Ultimately, just take the class seriously (as an opportunity to learn, not just as an easy A) and take the most you can away from it!
Johnathon,
ReplyDeleteI also had a difficult time with the assignment. When working on that assignment it took me the longest to complete. Usually I spread an hour to two hours a week for the weekly assignments. When I did this assignment it took me two hours just to complete that assignment. Glad to know I was not the only one struggling to get that assignment completed. I am glad that you have found a more entrepreneurial mindset. Everyone said I have had one for since they can remember. I would make all these little inventions growing up and if I would have followed through with one I coul have possibly been a millionaire.
Hi there Johnathan! Super great job with this blog post. You are very detailed and consistent with your work. I totally agree that future students should treat this class like a true opportunity to work on, not only an entrepreneurial concept, but also on themselves. Those are very wise words.
ReplyDeleteJohnathan,
ReplyDeleteIt has been a great pleasure working with you this semester and seeing the dedication that you have had with your work! I think that your comments here really hit the nail on the head because all of us have grown from this class. A majority of it that I had not recognized until now is the self-reflection that goes on in this process. It is not just about the business and working to make a profit, but creating value for others using our abilities.

Johnathan,
ReplyDeleteI can definitely agree with you that reaching out and making connections with experts in your chosen industry was an amazing experience for this class. Even though it was for a hypothetical concept, it was still a great way to make real connections so that’s dope! Also, adding on to what you said about looking at the world and identifying opportunities, I have definitely found myself wanting to fix everything and that largely thanks to this course. Good luck with all of your future endeavors. Great semester, Well done!
I agree with you 100% for those taking this class in the future. Behind some of these tedious assignments came a lot of self-improvement. This class definitely helped me with how to be comfortable in front of a camera and being under pressure when talking about my friend's value when doing the assignment where we had to have others who know us best to talk about our values. Like you said, this class is a great way to make connections in the business world because of all the assignments requiring us to do so. I do believe that if someone takes this class very seriously, that they can make a great connection with a big company and possibly work together with them to make their venture a reality. Overall, great post!
